Red Cross workers are on the scene of the Park Meadow Apartments (2700 block of Yeager St.) in Fort Worth. Yesterday’s fire at the apartment complex displaced 68 elderly residents from their homes. While only three apartment units were completely destroyed, residents could not return to their apartments due to minor smoke and water damage, as well as electrical issues. Most residents stayed overnight with family or friends in the area. Shelter was available at the apartment complex – where 15 residents and three apartment staff members stayed the night.
Red Cross workers will be providing assistance to the residents who have immediate disaster-caused needs, and continue to support apartment residents with snacks and drinks throughout the day.
It is expected that residents with homes that were not affected by the fire should be able to return to their apartments later this evening or tomorrow morning. Shelter will be available at the complex again tonight for those who cannot return to their homes.
The Red Cross is always looking for volunteers who can help their friends and neighbors experiencing disasters through the Red Cross. Individuals in the community who would like to help as a volunteer or by making a financial donation, should contact the American Red Cross Chisholm Trail Chapter at www.chisholmtrail.redcross.org, or by calling 817-335-9137.
